King Carrey ****

It is not hard to see why The Grinch has been such a success at the U.S box office.  A classic story combined with an excellent director, Ron Howard, and the un-matched comedic talent of Jim Carrey make this one of the most enjoyable films of the year.

Sure, it's supposed to be a kids movie, but it is so much fun that I suspect that the adults will get more of a kick out of it than their children.  And the main reason for this is simple...Jim Carrey.

You never see his face throughout the whole movie, but Carrey is unmistakable as the Grinch who steals Christmas from the population of Whoville.

He delivers every line with a ferocious enthusiasm that is hard to ignore.  The laughs come thick and fast, not because the script is overly funny, but because Carrey delivers his lines so well.

O.K, maybe I'm being a bit to hard on the screenwriters because the script is, in fact, very good.  But you sense that the film would not have been the same without Carrey in the lead role...maybe the film would not have even been made at all had Carrey not been on board.

But it is a good thing that it was made because what we get is an extremely warm and funny film that will probably end up becoming one of the highest grossing films of all time.  It is definitely a film that kids, and adults for that matter, will want to see over and over again because it is just so much fun to watch.

While Carrey deserves a lot of the praise for his work, so to do Ron Howard and his crew.

Howard has managed to keep the cartoonish quality in the film and he has also kept the film a honest representation of the enormously popular Dr Suess book, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, on which it is based.

The result is an incredibly entertaining film that could only be spoiled by having to look after screaming kids whilst watching it..

Come to think of it, adults should go to see it by themselves.  You  won't be disappointed.
