out this week (almost famous).jpg (30979 bytes) Almost Famous (M15+)
Drama

Starring: Patrick Fugit, Kate Hudson, Billy Crudup
Director: Cameron Crowe

Released: 22 February 2001

Director Cameron Crowe's (Jerry Maguire, Singles, Say Anything....) first job (or one of his first anyway) was as a reporter for the rock and roll bible, Rolling Stone.  Crowe was only 15 when he was on the road reporting for the magazine and Almost Famous is more-or-less (it's fiction, but certainly is based upon) his story of those days.  This film has been one of the best received films of the year (2000) in the U.S.A and it will definitely strike a chord with Crowe's Australian fans.  Definitely one to look forward to.

Pay It Forward (M15+)
Drama

Starring: Haley Joel Osment, Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt
Director: Mimi Leder

Released: 22 February 2001

out this week (pay it forward).jpg (22749 bytes)

Haley Joel Osment follows up his excellent performance in The Sixth Sense with his role in this lightweight drama about a boy who starts a  "outreach program" that aims to make the world a better place.  This movie sounds a little, well, boring and it certainly hasn't taken off in the States.   Still it has a good cast, Oscar winners Kevin Spacey an Helen Hunt also star, and it may just prove to be quite an interesting film.

Note: Enemy at the Gates and Antitrust are also currently scheduled for release in February 2001 but they have not been included in this preview because it is unlikely that they will remain at their current release dates.
