Most good war films are sometimes hard to watch.
The relentlessness of bloody images being thrown at the viewer are sometimes too much, but
ultimately it is these realistic images that make the audience appreciate the film all the
more.
War films are never easy and are hardly ever
entertaining in the real sense of the word. Sure they are well made and appreciated,
but you would never see them too have a good time.
It's is a good thing then that Three Kings is not a war movie.
Ignore the front cover on the video when you rent this
incredibly entertaining film from your video store. The fact that Mark Wahlberg,
George Clooney and Ice Cube are in military fatigues walking through the Kuwaiti Desert is
of little relevance. The Gulf War setting merely provides the backdrop for the
excellent storyline too develop.
Would you take the money and run or would you stay to
help those in need. That is the question before the main characters (Clooney,
Wahlberg and Cube [That is his last name isn't it?]) and the journey they embark on is as
enthralling as they come.
There is no stand out performance from the cast,
instead all members, even the bit players, are outstanding.
The ending will leave you thinking (not in any serious
way; when you see the movie you will know what I mean) and whilst it may be
"sugar-coated", even a little predictable, ultimately it works very well.
The film is slick, thanks mainly to the direction of
David O. Russell and is one of the best movie released this year. Many will argue
but no other movie released on video this year provides the entertainment that Three Kings
does.
