Coyote Ugly (M15+)
DramaStarring:
Piper Perabo, Maria Bello, Adam Garcia
Director: David McNally
Released: 1 January 2001 |

|
This new film from producer Jerry
Bruckheimer is a dramatic departure from the action packed films (Con Air,
Enemy of the State, Top Gun) that he usually churns out -- although he did
produce the similarly-themed, Flashdance. Billed as "Flashdance
meets Cocktail", Coyote Ugly will probably be a hit with
twenty something's who are not to worried about a decent plot but just want to soak up a
"good-time" film. Australian Adam Garcia (Bootmen)
stars opposite a plethora of scantily clad, good looking women in a film that focuses on
the journey of a young woman who works at a notorious bar in New York City.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden
Dragon (M15+)
ActionStarring:
Chow Yun-Fat, Michelle Yeoh, Zhang Ziyi
Director: Ang Lee
Released: 4 January 2001 |
This is the film that beat out The Dish for the People's Choice
Award at the 25th Annual Toronto International Film Festival, so you know that this film
must be of the highest standard. Starring action star Chow Yun-Fat, this is the
story of a 19th century Chinese Warrior who sets off on a cross-country journey to
retrieve his sword that has been stolen from his lover. Nearly every review of this
film has been universal in its praise and this looks a certainty to take out the Best
Foreign Film at next year's Academy Awards. The fight scenes are said to be some of
the most spectacular ever put on film and these Taiwanese film may even become a candidate
for the Best Picture Oscar. |
Proof of Life
(M15+)
DramaStarring:
Meg Ryan, Russell Crowe, David Caruso
Director: Taylor Hackford
Released: 4
January 2001 Now March
2001 |

|
This film will probably be remembered as
the film that brought together real-life lovers, Meg Ryan and Russell Crowe. The
film itself shapes as an unremarkable kidnap drama that will rely heavily on the chemistry
between its two stars to elevate it above mediocrity. Obviously, they have great
chemistry off-screen, but whether that is transferred onto the screen remains to be seen.
Released in the U.S last week (8 December 2000) to mixed reviews. |
