Titan A.E (PG)
Animated Sci-FiVoices of:
Matt Damon, Bill Pullman, Drew Barrymore
Director's: Don Bluth and Gary Goldman
Released: 4 January 2001 |
A much-maligned animation film that has
had to wait quite a while to gain a release here in Australia (it was released on
video in the U.S in November 2000). Obviously, its distributors were
waiting for the school holiday's so that they could squeeze as much money out this film as
possible. However, the larger school holiday crowds may not be enough to save this
film from being a box office disaster given the stiff competition that it will be up
against. Read the Review |
The Adventures of Rocky
and Bullwinkle (G)
ComedyStarring:
Robert DeNiro, Rene Russo, Jason Alexander
Director: Des McAnuff
Released: 11 January 2001 |

|
Another film that has had to wait a while
for a release here, but this film may be successful given the cult-like following of the
animated Rocky and Bullwinkle series. Combines computer animation with live-action
and this may prove to be quite a fun film. It didn't do
much at the U.S box office but it may strike a chord with the school holiday audience.
Could be a surprise hit of the summer. |

Book of Shadows: Blair
Witch 2 (MA15+)
HorrorStarring:
Tristen Skylar, Stephen Barker Turner, Jeffrey Donovan
Director: Joe Berlinger
Released: 11 January 2001 |
A follow-up to last year's surprise hit, The
Blair Witch Project, this film will be worth a look for that fact alone.
The original Blair Witch was a over-hyped mess of a film
that capitalized on its extremely interesting premise to become a huge box-office smash.
Hopefully this film will be a little bit better than the original even though it
will not enjoy the same hype that its predecessor did. Reviews out of the
States have not been complimentary but surely it cannot be any worse than Blair Witch 1.
Interestingly, the writers/directors of the original film, Daniel Myrick and
Eduardo Sanchez, served only as producers on this film, although they will write and
direct the third Blair Witch film.

Little Nicky
(M15+)
ComedyStarring:
Adam Sandler, Patricia Arquette, Rhys Ifans
Director: Steven Brill
Released: 4 January 2001 Now
26 December 2000 |

Adam Sandler showed a little more maturity
(or as much maturity as Adam Sandler can show) with his recent film's, The
Wedding Singer and Big Daddy, and as a result they
turned out to be his most enjoyable to date. Little Nicky seems to be a throwback to
Sandler's earlier films (Billy Madison, Happy
Gilmore -- both quite funny films) and although this may please his devoted
following of fans, it may also prove a big mistake for this film's box office success.
The preview paints this film as a high-budget, low-brow comedy and, to be quite
truthful, I was more excited about seeing this film before I saw the preview. It
should still provide heaps of laughs but let's just hope that Sandler doesn't overdo the
stupidity. Read the Review |
